was in Exercise Physiology class (obviously this is my fav class), our lecturer mentioned about this white Caucasian guy who won the 100m sprint in the Olympics back in the 70's. apparently he was the last Caucasion to win this run because after the 70's, gold medalist for 100m sprint were african american - all of them...
so, we were studying this white guy's record times and looked at his history abit.. when he was 14 years old he was enrolled to a Sport School. this school was for potential elite athletes. his record at that age was 13seconds for 100m sprint. 8 years later, he joined the olympics and finished the distance in 10seconds. he won the gold medal.
so, here is the data. at 14 -
13seconds.. at 22 -
10seconds. it takes 8 years to lower the time by
3 seconds. it was kinda bizzare when i first heard of it.. training for so many years just to be 3 second faster..
but i tried to think professionally. 3 seconds could be a long time to an athlete's eye. and it all comes down to how the body works, how the body is trained.
the moral of all these. whenever we try to get what we dreamed of.. we've tried and tried and tried, still there is still no sign of improvement... well, maybe there is... we were just to blinded to see the little things we've accomplished because we were to busy looking up to the bigger picture... it takes weeks, months, years to make it happen... so, make a record, or have a reflection time, or self-evaluation session for ourselves... see where we were, and compare to where we are now.. what are the differences? list down any accomplishment... list down any room for improvements, that needs attention..
so for this guy, perhaps eight years was nothing for him...
