last week, an amazing tv show Eat To Save Your Life hosted by Jamie Oliver
this week, another interesting show hosted by him again, Jamie's Fowl Dinner.
this time, he was talking about chicken and eggs production. in Britain, eggs are produced unnaturally. the chicken was forced to lay eggs in a small period of time. i think, they are called something egg machine. you guys have to see it, it was not good. the chicken was not in a good condition, their feathers fell off.. sad scene really
the chicken, the scientifically-controlled chicken to be precise, their life-span is only 36 days!!! gosh!! and they are huge. since they become big in short period of time, they have weak/not-properly developed bones. hence, most of the time they sat down. they couldn't lift themselves up and walk around.. and also, they don't look healthy at all.
one of the poultry people said that, they did this because this is what costumers want, the bigger the better. and have chicken available all the time. these chicken are cheap as well. so costumers for sure go for these chicken.
unlike the healthy ones (only 5% in this business practice this), chicken lay eggs not as often and smaller in size. also, they cost abit more ($1 more). also, their life span is longer (obviously)
for me, paying $1 more is fine by me, it is cheaper than paying for medication due to the side-effects from having those scientifically-controlled chicken for the rest of my life.
the thing is, i live in college. i guess i have to stop eating the large-looking chicken from now on.
owh yea, i was told before that the big chicken here, they have growth hormones. i don't know why they injected the chicken with that hormone. gosh, staying here for a long period of time really concern me.
i was even told that there is a high chance to get breast cancer if international students stay here long enough. breast cancer can develop from diets and environment. gosh, with weird hormones, pesticides and whatever they put in the food we eat, it is really possible to develop just any kind of disease or even cancer here.
all we can do is pray for our health i suppose. man, i miss Brunei.. i feel safer at home :(
